Column by "Riccola The Phat Cat"

Let me take a moment to introduce myself, this is Shanta Hendry aka "Riccola The Phat Cat" Promotions Manager and Journalist at URSCENE Radio. I would like to present this column to you for your benefit as a musician or artist. As we all know DC is generally known for politics, tourism and Cherry Blossoms in the spring. But let is be known that DC is full of talent. We are generally known for Go-Go music; but there are a variety of musical acts blossoming all around town. The musical talent range for hip-hop and rap to go-go, neo-soul and R&B.

If you are new to the music business or even if you have been doing music all of your life, it is always a good thing to get educated on the business. Many organizations from coast to coast offer many different information workshops, seminars and websites for musicians, songwriters, managers and performers. These tools give you the opportunities to not only learn new trends in the business; but also to network with others in the music industry. The knowledge that can be obtained may well be the key to your success in the music business.

There are a number of new artists, producers, organizations and recording studios that are developing and increasing opportunities for DC to become an entertainment capitol. This column will include interviews with producers, recording studios, and entertainment lawyers; and will provide any information that may be of help to your project. This column will include tips on the music industry process, songwriting tips and general information.
