If you all remembered when I came into this I vowed that by the time I am done artist will be comfortable enough with the money they make in the Indie Circuit that they do not have to jump at the first person that make them an offer. We started out with 11,000 Listeners and now have over 500,000 world wide.

Pardon the Pun here but Weed is just one flower to grow from the seed we planted 7 Months Ago. Weed is Growing like a "uh-ra" well you know... Let's recap. So far we have taken artist on a multi-city tour. We have sent artist in to cities to perform with out us. We have positioned ourselves into a position to get artist in to many clubs across the country. We have brought you the UFC. We are now working with Universal Records to bring you the Universal Talent Search tour 2004, We are officially opening the VIP Club next month for the social elite in everyone. We have our own Distribution site already helping artist make money ( WeDistributeU.com ). We have now added our own CD Duplication service to the mix ( WeDuplicate4U.com ), which offers low cost Duplication services for artist. Next Month we are launching our own Magazine that caters to the independent artist, which will be in full circulation around the World. Now we are selling Weed.
I'd say we are well on our way to keeping my original promise. Every member of my staff is dedicated to making this vision come true.

Now what is weed?
The concept is pretty basic: Weed rewards people who share files and respect artists' rights. You can play a Weed file three times for free on any PC. After three free plays, you're asked to pay for the file. You can use any current Windows Media-compatible player software to play the file. The Weed software, which keeps track of your account information, is used to purchase files. Once you purchase a Weed file, you're free to play it all you want on up to three PCs. You also can burn the file to CD and play it on your stereo system, or transfer it to a portable device like the Creative Labs Nomad, the Rio S10, or any current Windows CE PDA. Best of all, you can share Weed files with anyone you like, as long as the files remain in their original form as Windows Media files. And if someone you share a file with purchases that file, you'll earn a payment for helping to distribute it. Specifically, the artist always receives 50% of each sale, and the rest goes to those who helped distribute the file. You get 20%, the person who shared the file with you gets 10%, and the person who shared the file with that person gets 5% of the sale price. Weed receives the final 15% for service and software maintenance costs. All purchases and distributor payments are made into your Weed account through PayPal. Deposits and withdrawals from your Weed account cost 50 cents, but all other transactions are free. You must have a PayPal account to make deposits to your Weed account.  Again we will take your CD Files Convert them to Weed Files then send them back to you as well as circulate them on the internet and on our upcoming download site.  We will even distribute your Weed files in our magazine, circulated around the world.

What The Industry Doesn't Want You To Know
URSCENE is at the forefront of exposing the game and helping artist make money.  Regardless of your genres of music (No Satan Worshipers Please!!! Thank You!!!), we are here to help you.  As you read this Remember the Word PIMPED!!!

Remember the recent article after an interview with DMX revealed that at the height of his HipHop career, he only collected $.18 per CD sold.  Now remember he is a multi-platinum selling artist, selling more then 6 Million copies of one of his albums. That means he collected $1,080,000 which is not peanuts, but hardly what you'd expect a Grammy award winning, multi-platinum selling artist would make. Consider that he was in the business more than 20 years, in the Mainstream for more than 10, and this is what he collected. Most Artist with a new deal get about $.04 - $.07 per CD meaning you would have to sell any where from 12,500,000 - 24,000,000 to collect what he made after ten years in the business. Oh and that is if you sell your whole album without someone extracting your music, and posting it all over Kazaa and other programs.  If your music is hot, good luck on that one!!! I know some of you are saying you can do it so, better hurry you got your work cut out for you.

URSCENE Radio thru focus and aggressive marketing/and promotions is helping to close the gap and escalate what
artist receive in payments. Now factor that thru the Weed system you are making almost three times as much for a single song than the giant selling DMX did on a whole album.  Let's look at the numbers.  You collect $.50 off of each song that is actually shared and purchased.  Therefor at $.50 per song you would only need to sell 540,000 copies of the song to make what he mad at Platinum status.  Hell you are making more at then he did at 6x Platinum.  Hmmm, and they told you Platinum was worth more than gold!!! Uh Yea Right...   Now consider this is only one song.  An album has an average of 17 tracks.  So Let's see how this looks if you sold your whole whole album.  Let's look at the per album sales:  The Mighty Giant Platinum Seller makes about $.18  for selling his whole album. However, at $.50 a song you make about $8.50 per album. Yeah I know, it's only about 48x what he made so what the hell.  He can sell a damn million copies, go platinum, and collect $180,000 so what does he care, Right?  Poor you cause you would have to sell 90,000 songs to make that and wouldn't even be considered silver.  Plus your chances to make that kinda just increase by more that 17 times because you have
17 individual little money makers going around freely to anyone that will listen.

Oh and don't forget to look over there to the right because here comes the money takes DMX, cause here comes you managers fees, your attorneys fees, your producers fees, payments out to whose ever stuff you sampled, and more. Depending on your contract it could even have Distribution pay outs.  Usually this is only about 60% out of that $180,000 you made DMX.  That 60% is on the low side when you include promotions.  So you still walk away with $72,000 Go head on an do the damn thang!!! WOOOAAAA!!!   Let's See...  For you as an artist through the weed system, Distribution fees are eliminated because everyone who gets the file has incentive to share it because if it's hot and it sells they get paid of the money on the top not your $.50 that is a constant. 
Lawyer fees, Hmmm why do you need him for this, because you signed the original agreement to have us convert your song to a money maker you are just collecting royalties.  Well promotions are being done anyway since people are passing your money maker to others, so even if they don't buy, they know you because we hard code your URL and Name into the file. The incentive again for everyone that touches the file to promote you is that they get paid.  So go ahead and load it into Kazaa, Imesh, and the other file sharing sites cause that is just what the artist needs to make sells. Hey DMX some one just stole your money by downloading you file for free.   Hmm, I think if I was an artist I think I would hit up URSCENE.com to get my hands on some good Ole Weed!!!!  Put that in ya pipe and smoke it Mainstream!!!! -LOL

Tier 5 Mike Sends the file to Mary Who makes a purchase and sends it to someone else who makes a purchase. The Artist collects 50%. Mary Makes 20%.  The Software Manufacturer collects 15%. Mike makes 10%.  Sue Makes 3%.  Joe collects 1%.  URSCENE Collects 1%. Tier 6 Mary sends the file to Tanya who makes a purchase and sends the file to someone else who makes a purchase.  The Artist collects 50%.  Tanya collects 20%.  The Software Manufacturer collects 15%.  Mary Collects 10% Mike Collects 2%. Sue collects 1%. Joe Collects 1%. URSCENE collects 1%. Everything Bottoms Out When you hit a level of 15 People at a Level of Collecting Only 1%.  The artist is still collecting at 50%.  By then this single file with only one Distributor after being converted will have been Purchased more than 30 times over.  Now Imagine having  the file originate from more than one distributor after leaving URSCENE to a Second Tier Distributor. Now imagine having your whole album distributed this way.

You can definitely ask them to do it through you *instead* of opting-in for the CD Baby Digital Distribution method.
We don't want to de-incentivize anyone. The more people helping musicians get their music out there, the better.
Let the musicians know that they'll get more personalized service and promotion (?) if they do it through you, instead of CD Baby, where we really run it as an assembly-line process (63,000 artists!) which is why we're able to do all this for only a slight lower cut.
Find ways to give the artists the extra-attention, especially in marketing and promotion, that we just CAN'T give them.

3) > Hey Derek So a downside... an artist who sells CDs thru CDBaby, but who weedifies thru URSCENE, will obviously not be getting those ICP-weedified tracks onto their CDBaby website. CDBaby has no reason to distribute another ICP's weed files.

Wait wait wait... gotta make sure everyone is clear on this:
CD Baby will NOT be doing anything with the Weed files.
There will be no Weed files (or any download files) on cdbaby.com.
Though we are a retail destination when it comes to selling CDs, when it comes to digital downloads we are ONLY a distributor, NOT a retailer.
We'll just be supplying the WMA files to Weed for Weedification, and after that it's up to the artist to go get them and spread them to the world, or up to the people that are into making a Weed download destination site/service, to come grab our catalog for resale.

4) No Tricky Verbiage To Make You Think You Have To Exclusively Deal With URSCENE

Hey ICPeeps -
Since the contract between Weed & CD Baby is finally all done, and we started our opt-in program for artists
yesterday, I thought it'd be a good time to finally get on this email list and see if you guys had any
questions/concerns/etc.
Y'know - instead of guessing or wondering anything - just ask.
I'll clear up two big points, up front:
#1 - CD BABY DIGITAL DISTRIBUTION IS NOT REALLY EXCLUSIVE
When I launched the digital distribution program last summer, I wanted to make sure artists didn't go sign up with CD Baby Digital Distribution, and ALSO go sign up with the Orchard and ALSO IODA or whoever else came along - because it would be a mess for them if all three companies were sending the same album to Apple
iTunes,Rhapsody, etc. So I called the deal exclusive for the sole purpose of preventing duplication. That's all. We don't police it. We don't force anyone to stop doing anything. We put that part there ONLY for their own sake, to avoid confusion. 
That being said, many of the big download companies (iTunes, Sony Connect, MSN Music, etc.) have thanked us for having it be exclusive, for the sake of their own sanity. So... if there's a CD Baby artist signed up for our Digital Distribution program, but you'd like to be their ICP ... GO FOR IT. Just ask them to make sure that they do NOT opt-in for the Weed distribution through CD Baby as well.
