DC AREA YOUTH’S SHOW SPIRIT IN VIRGINIA

April 20, 2002 Paramount Kings Dominion became the scene of screaming, yelling, throwing people around and a lot of fierce battling.  No I am not talking about the war in the Middle East.  I am speaking of the friendly annual spirit weekend competition in the infamous Doswell, VA theme park.  This was the scene where youth from several Washington, DC area recreation center Cheerleading Squads took their routines on the road to have their talents spotlighted.  The list included the Rosedale Tigers, The District Heights Chiefs, and last but certainly not least URSCENE’s featured squad the Fort Davis and J.E. Howard Hoyas. (Hoyas shown in Photo on the right)
Also See Hoya’s Feature Story (below).
If you were one of those people that thought Washington D.C. area youth had nothing positive to offer, you have likely never seen these kids in action.  In fact these kids have so much positive energy you could probably power a city for a month.  In just a few hours I observed more running, jumping, flipping and camaraderie than I have ever seen on Network Television in a month.   That leads to the question, why isn’t this the images of the inner city youth that I see on the nightly news?

(Marlboro Mustangs Shown above)

Many of these DC area teams have battled in fierce competitions to include the District of Columbia City wide competition where the Fort Davis as theirs former name the Tigers have captured many titles.  Highly competitive these competitions and the practice that lead up to them teach these kids the value of fitness, concentration, and discipline.  If you don’t think it takes talent to make these teams have a look at the photo on the left, the the Marlboro Mustangs in action.  Yes that red and white streak you see in the air is a cheerleader.  These kids practice long hours to polish their routine.  So as a tribute to the kids of the athletics teams around the region, we bring a quick glimpse of the teams we caught up with at the spirit weekend competition.  Boys and Girls, Jamcnblood and the entire URSCENE Entertainment Staff salute you.

Let’s Take A Look At Some The Area’s Top Competing Teams This Year!

You know we could not resist another candid photo so
Hows this? "I am Diva!!!  Hear Me Roar!!!"

We caught up with one of the Fort Davis Cheerleaders,
Latoya Powell of the Hoyas (Photo Left),  shortly after her team placed second in the Spirit Week End Competition and ask what did she think of the competition.  Latoya said....

In case you are wondering where you may have seen the guy in the photo on the right.  He is Lovell L. Elliott, II.  He appeared in the photo with his father, owner of VELL-CO Incorporated, Lovell Elliott, I in the March Interviews section.  Lovell no 2 is the close first cousin of Latoya Powell.
