Somewhere in the heart of Maryland's Prince Georges County
is a school which besides education, possess an additional blessing.
Fairmont Heights High School is a school that last month allowed us to
bring you a glimpse into the future of basketball with the introduction of
Dewayne Dikes. This month we found at that same high school a
glimpse into the future of science. Maxwell Mitchell is a
substitute teacher at Fairmont Heights. Though teaching is a talent
in and of itself. It is not the only talent offered by Mr.
Mitchell. Maxwell is an inventor. His latest product is his
patented Micro-ID. Have you ever wished you could remember where you
placed the specifications for a valuable piece of equipment, or ever
wished you kept the original manufacture documentation for equipment that
may not be so valuable if you can find that documentation. Maxwell
Mitchell's patented system is an way to reduce that information and store
it completely out of the way until it is needed. While the documentation
can be store out of the way, it is easily accessible because it is
attached to the back or inside of the equipment itself. This comes
in hand if you ever needed a computer upgrade or some specialized part
number because now there is no need to keep up with a lot of untidy paper
documentation. Because this information is a hard tag copy there is
no need to worry about data loss in computer or manuals being thrown
away. Recently I caught up with Mr. Mitchell for an interview, which
was really a treat for me. Mitchell, self described a regular
person, says he has always just wanted to know the why's and how's of how
Everything worked. He says he used to build computer systems
and became frustrated a lot of times when he did not have documentation
for the switches on some of the motherboards. This became an
inspiration for him to come up with a system that would allow him to more
effective place the information inside the |

computer where it would be more
helpful than in a manual that could become lost. His patented labeler
could be used to display information both indoors and outdoors. He
says the labeler in the business circles could save clients money because
now the extra time is not wasted in researching schematics. With the
use of a standard pocket magnifier you have all the information you need
right at your finger tips. With the completion of this project
Mitchell says that he has other projects in the working. All of his
projects according to Maxwell are designed to enhance operations and
life. It would be his greatest honor if one of his products someday
saved a life. When asked what would he tell those who wishes to
follow his footsteps: "Learn as much as you can, don't be afraid to
try things, stay focused, you will have failures, so just remember to make
your failures better."
Other inventions by Mitchell include a camera that eliminates keystone
when a photographer stands too close to a tall object. This while
still taking advantage of the uses of a wide angled lens. The camera
is very light weight and less expensive then recent cameras that have similar
capabilities. Though he has Worked for companies like IBM and
Digital he has never been as satisfied as he is marketing his own
creations. Mitchell's creations have been written up in
such publications as the Washington Post and Other Newspapers, as well as
Upscale Magazine, Range Finder Magazine, MBE Magazine.
