What’s the unsigned
hype about URSCENE RADIO, formally Urban Scene Radio; well if you have been
hiding under a rock or just don’t know about the effectiveness of today’s
technology than you are unaware of the power of URSCENE Radio. Broadcasting
to over 900,000 listeners overseas and across the U.S.; URSCENE Radio
focuses its attention on the unsigned artists, giving them the exposure that
is needed in order to let the world heat what they have for their listening
pleasure.
URSCENE Radio actually
began as Urban Scene E-Magazine and the beginning of Urban Scene E-Magazine
started when Jay Bee, Owner/CEO/Music Director also known as the “Educated
Thug” was fired from Blackplanet.com, where he wrote the editorial
commentaries. Because of his straight-forwardness and the inability to not
say whatever is on his mind, his writing caused some eyebrows to rise. Jay
Bee would bring new information to the public in his own way, which were
usually not the views of others. From his comments many merchants and clergy
felt that his was a hinder to the website; so he had the option of being
censored or be fired. After his departure, that is when he decided to create
with online e-magazine so that he could post his own commentaries and
editorials in his own way. He decided that this project could go a little
further than just commentaries and editorial; so he decided to write
articles about entertainment, community and unsigned artists. After the E-zine
began to grow, the staff became lazy and Jay Bee ended up doing all the
work; so this project didn't hit the shelf for a minute.
Meanwhile, not to let
any grass grow under his feet, Jay Bee was distributing independent films
and that’s when the idea for WeDistribute4U.com came into play. But that to
like many other things, some of the film were not acceptable, so this too
was shelved. While traveling across the country and around the world, while
visiting France, Jay Bee ran into a guy that told him that he could sell one
CD that cost $8.99 in the US for $40.00 in France. Jay Bee thinking that
this was the stupidest thing that he ever heard told the guy that "no one
was going to buy those CDs for that price." While standing nearby, in less
than three minutes, 3 CDs had already been sold. Jay Bee then came to the
conclusion that if people were spending that kind of money, it must be for
something that is very hard to get; so this is when WeDistribute4u.com was
reborn, selling music by unsigned artists. With the rebirth, it was decided
that a promotional campaign needed to be put in place so that people would
know that they can now get their hands on this music very easily.
While in Germany, Jay
Bee had a chance to encounter a guy who was selling a broadcast channel
called W-ROK Radio. This station owner had just gotten an FM broadcast
channel out in California; but his office was located in Columbia, MD. His
satellite broadcast was then pushing out to 13 cities overseas. After
negotiations for the station, this was the forming stage of Urban Scene
Radio. The name was chosen as a connection to the Urban Scene E-Magazine,
which was a way to reincarnate this project which was once placed on hold.
Now with a magazine and radio, this was an extraordinary way to focus on the
unsigned artist
September 15, 2003, was
the first time W-ROK Radio became Urban Scene Radio and was online; but the
station was still pushing Heavy Metal. In October the station starting to
push mainstream music as a way to eventually change over completely; to
unsigned artist. Jay Bee thought that it would be best to do it this way in
order to make a smooth transition. This way those unsigned artists that were
as good as mainstream really didn’t make a big difference in the quality of
music that the listener was hearing.

November 22, 2003 is
when the new format for unsigned artists had been promoted for a month in a
half. In Europe, Urban Scene Radio was promoted as the best thing to happen
to satellite radio since its beginning. Along with the satellite broadcast,
it was decided that internet radio should be incorporated into the plan too
since everyone did not have satellite radio. On this same date Urban Scene
Radio debuted to 33,000 people worldwide via satellite and internet radio
using the unsigned artist format. At that time there were your usual
glitches; the microphones would not work, there was no talking and there
were no commercials. The station broadcast for 16 hours a day and for 10
hours there was just straight music. This format with no talking or gimmicks
did alright, but the number of people listening went down to 18,000 for a
couple of week. Then when the sniper shootings took place, this is when the
loud-mouth, opinionated Jay Bee bombarded the microphone. With his
description of punishment, such as frying the sniper himself, the listeners
began to tune in every day just to see what Jay Bee was going to say.
Since the beginning of
2004, URSCENE Radio has elevated to another level so fast that everyone’s
heads are spinning. URSCENE-FM is totally dedicated to the advancement of
unsigned artist. URSCENE Radio is the only global broadcast committed
exclusively to the progression of the underground 24/7. We present various
opportunities for unsigned artist to progress successfully in the
entertainment industry by providing global exposure, creating relationships
through networking, and supplying a venue to showcase talents. This gives
artist great opportunities to get true audience feedback and exposure.
Knowing that our
broadcast reaches a global audience is the most important reason that
URSCENE Radio is so successful. Making connections across the country and
with overseas audiences is a tremendous way for any artist to make advance
steps in their careers. Not only do we broadcast the unsigned artists, but
we also act as a promotional agency; by providing articles, CD reviews,
showcases and tours that allow our artists to travel to other cities to
perform. URSCENE Radio is fast becoming a household name, simply because we
provide a full service for the unsigned artists. With our promotional staff,
dedicated listeners, and continued help from other industry connections; we
are fast becoming the #1 station for the unsigned artist. Unlike your
commercial stations, URSCENE Radio can broadcast from any where we like and
we can be the icing on the cake of any event because we have good taste in
radio.
